I’ve noticed a lot of threads popping up on the official Guild Wars 2 forums, GW2Guru, and other big community GW2 sites asking a specific question – what is the BEST PvP class in GW2? – well, that’s a bit difficult to answer. There isn’t necessarily a “best” class per se but there are definitely a few that excel in PvP better than others. But the major thing that determines the effectiveness of a class is your overall build and skill using it.
The Elementalist (or Ele for short) is one of the most versatile and powerful classes in Guild Wars 2 especially when you make use of a decent staff build because it provides tons of AoE (area of effect) attacks that dish out a lot of damage and throw down conditions, too.
A decent Ele build for PvP would be 10/20/0/10/30. That’s 10 points for Fire Magic, 20 for Air Magic, 0 for Earth Magic, 10 for Water Magic, and 30 for Arcane Power. This is meant to be a staff build. With the right traits and quick reflexes it’s a powerful build in PvP. The Elementalist is one of the most difficult classes to get used to if you haven’t played it, though, because you have to switch attunements rather often to be effective.
Mesmers are also one of the best class selections for PvP. One of the best setups is to use a 10/30/0/25/5 build with Scepter/Sword and Sword/Pistol weapon combination. It’s extremely quick and extremely effective. All you have to do is dodge your opponent’s attacks and summon your phantasms while moving around your enemy. This is an incredibly strong build for 1v1 fights in PvP. It’s not as effective when playing against multiple targets, though.
Thieves are pretty decent in PvP, too. They’re great for quick, strong attacks. A good build that gives a lot of DPS and survivability is 0/30/30/10/0. Most Thieves stick to a Dagger/Dagger or Sword/Pistol weapon setup.
But, to answer the question of what the BEST PvP class is in GW2… Mesmer and Thief are really good especially once you learn how to use them appropriately. There are some great Guardian PvP builds out there, too, but if I had to choose I’d say go with either a Mesmer or a Thief.
